Folk rocker Andre Swiegers shares the stage with his son, guitar virtuous, Emile. They are set to captivate the audience with golden oldies of artists like Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Peter Sarstedt, Jerry Jeff Walker and Creedence Clearwater Revival - as well as their own original songs. André resides in Pretoria and Emile in Somerset West. Occasionally the two forces join, then the generation gap diminishes and a unique symbiosis occurs between father and son.
André Swiegers has been an active artist for decades. He has collaborated and shared stages with some of the most celebrated names in the industry. He wrote and co-wrote songs that became popular locally and abroad – Blou, Eva, Jammer om te hoor, Doncella, Turn on the light, All I really want, Going Down, Twee Feilbare Mense, Hoe draai die wind dan nou, Aphrodite, Take me where the sun is shining (Coleske), to name a few. He has won several awards – varying from best contemporary album to best producer. His son, Emile, played lead guitar for the popular Afrikaans band ‘Die Tuindwergies’. Currently he is pursuing a solo career as songwriter/arranger/producer/recording- and performing artist.
The show was a great way to celebrate my "71st" with family members!!
Venue was perfect
I wasn't expecting the dialogue to be in Afrikaans so missed a lot but enjoyed the Afrikaans songs though preferred the English ones. My Zimbabwean guest was also disappointed not to understand the humour. As for the music, I felt Emile was a little heavy-handed on the guitar but Andre was excellent. Overall an enjoyable evening but I much preferred A Latin Affair. little
Reading my comments keep in mind that i am not a music expert just enjoying a wide variety of music. I am what one can probably call an andre swiegers' fan ,see some shows in the past and I do have a number of his earlier CD's. Okay last night : something was wrong with the sound(not sure how to describe it ) and as i am very sensitive for bad sound quality it unfortunately tainted my experience negatively in general. I however got the feeling that for some reason Andre's "heart" was not in the performance ? His attempts to include some humour was also not very succesfull in my opinion. Based on last night will I attend his shows in future again , the answer is no. Will i still buy his CD's , the answer is yes. In my humble opinion Andre should focus on songwriting and CD's at this stage of his career. I think emile was very good but his type of music is for a selected target audience which exclude people like myself. i suppose there is always a chance that they were very good and that i had a bad night ?
Great talent! A most enjoyable evening 😄
