With Pieter-Dirk Uys as 'Bambi Kellermann' and Godfrey Johnson at the piano, this cabaret has been hailed as a milestone in South African theatre and 'not to be missed!' With music arranged by Johnson, the cabaret is performed in three languages. Bambi's story is told in English, while the songs also include some in German and some in Afrikaans. It unites the acrid stench of the old Weimar Republic of the 1930s and the sexy rot of Hamburg's Reperbahn with the familiar aromas associated with 'ons eie' Voortrekker-camps and braaivleis-orgies.
Bambi Kellermann (born Baby Poggenpoel) is the younger sister of Mrs Evita Bezuidenhout, the 'most famous white woman in South Africa'. Chalk and cheese. Whereas Evita has become a household name and favourite across political-party lines, Bambi smoulders in the background - not yet as famous as her sister, but far more dangerous. She loves the music of Kurt Weill and Stephen Sondheim. And being an Afrikaner meisie at heart, finds any excuse to sing her favourite Boere Liedjies out of the FAK Sangbundel. But with a sinister twist.
Uys won the Fleur du Cap Award for “Best performance in a Cabaret” for this show, and it is not for the faint-hearted…
Disappointing. Reference to the holacast and killing of blacks was inappropriate.
I loved the flow of the music .the challenging character images which were like full frontal nudity .i so enjoyed the new persona from PD Uys
Fantastic ... the audience are kept captured and enthralled xxxx

Half of our party of 8 thought it was ok whilst the other half didn't like the content and blatant vulgar language at all. I personally wouldn't recommend it as suitable for your current regular patrons. Not Pieter Dirk's best script! However, our previous show The Man Band must be rated as one of the BEST and most enjoyable shows we ve seen in a long time . Sandra
Always admired P-D Y tremendously for all he did to raise spirits and lampoon horrendous politicians during the apartheid years. This story of Bambi's life was very different from his usual offerings. Very dark, very serious, but also incredibly funny. I enjoyed it, but at times winced at the darkness. However, having said that, we need some serious theatre at times, as a counter-point to the light, frothy shows that are more popular.
I thoroughly enjoyed the cabaret and will return for more. I think you are doing a great job
very heavy social commentary after a hard day at work. Wasn't my scene
Pieter Dirk Uys is an amazing entertainer but some jokes rather raunchy!
A very different P dirk Uys performance but fantastic. I did not know that his voice was so suitable for P Weils music. Stunning performance. That the piano performance would be on the top I expected (as you had succeded to get him on your stage before) . Well done to get these performers to the drama factory. Kris
Please let Mr. Uys know 'Wir sind von Kopf bis Fuß auf E h r f u r c h t eingestellt...' great performance!!! Marion and Gottfried Hiel
Most enjoyable. Wish we'd heard more of the FAK medleys
Just brilliant on so many levels
Amazing as always great political satire and thought provoking
Hi, It was really great to visit your theatre and I will definitely promote it amongst the Gordon's Bay community. The show was really excellent! Certainly, satire hits below the emotional belt! The words and shock did make me feel somewhat punch-drunk (which is good) so I do think that perhaps a shorter show, around 1 hour would have left us (and 'Bambi') feeling less exhausted. Yes, I know some audience members may feel a little cheated! Well done on bringing a quality show to the Helderberg! We look forward to supporting you again. Best wishes Jeanette PS Your digital support admin is excellent !
I was very disappointed. The keyboard sounded terrible and was too loud. I am such a huge fan but perhaps ’she’ is just getting a bit old , like all of us. She sounded tired and a bit bored, not that I blame her....
It wasn't what I thought it was going to be, but I simply loved it! I left feeling quite unsettled, which is a very good thing. I have been thinking about many things this morning... I NEED a shakeup like this...
I must say compared to his other shows this was a bit disappointing.
5 Stars
The entertainment factor was very low. Mostly the audience sat in silence.
Very topical and brought across really well in an unoffensive way. Well done, Pieter and co...
