Work in Progress

Aug. 14, 2019 to Aug. 15, 2019
Comedy
Nik Rabinowitz
80mins
South Africa’s finest isiXhosa-speaking Jewish legspinner turned comedian Nik Rabinowitz's new show WORK IN PROGRESS covers mid life crises, the pitfalls of genetic testing, hair transplants and when to have them (never) as well as a variety of other topics in a thoroughly insensitive manner. Join Nik Rabinowitz as he tries to figure out who he is (as opposed to finding himself which he did in his 30s), where he came from, where he’s going (Romania, probably), and how he ended up here with a wife, three kids, two animals, and the vague feeling that this life might actually belong to someone else.

“Rabinowitz paints a crazy, seductively irreverent, broad canvas of who we are, voetstoots." – The Star
"Screamingly funny" - Weekend Argus
"Laugh your head off" - Mail & Guardian
Ek het myself nat gelag” - Patricia de Lille

Audience Responses

I admired his craft - brilliant. But I do not have respect for anyone who has to rely on bad language to be funny.

Fantastic, fast moving , fabulous. A worthy son of a well-known and admired father. I collected porcini mushrooms [cep, steinpilz, herrenpilz, -- Boletus edulis] at Eagles Nest decades ago regularly. Vic Levin Rating 5 as your stars don't work.

What an entertaining evening, full of laughs every time Nik said something. Real talent but then we would expect nothing less. Great show.

I decided not to attend as I did not trust that I would be safe going by myself at 8 pm at night on a stretch of road that has had so much violence towards motorists. I am very sad to have missed it.

Absolutely brilliant!!!! 2nd time we've come to the Drama Factory to see him, and it was probably even better than the first show we saw. Laughed till my sides hurt!

Quite a challenging and explosive string of associative thinking beyond and under the belly. The Jewishness as an undercurrent to this word avalanche touched more tha a tender string in me: Mazzel Tov. 5000 years of Judaism comprised in a 21st century rage of unresolved matters. Poor Justin who with his 18 years old self had to cope the implications on the first row all the way till his middle aged self will have reached the lonely summit of the stand-up comedians matured experience. I arrived home heavily (not heavenly) charged. Not yet prepared to take on another exposure. Love you all Jos Koetsier
