James Marais and Monique Cassells have become well-known for their “oldies” music tribute shows since they began performing together in 2009. In their “Oldies But Goldies” show, they pay tribute to the golden era of music from the 1950s to the 1980s, featuring artists such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Buddy Holly, The Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, Little Richard, The Platters, The Righteous Brothers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Eddie Cochran, Ritchie Valens, The Hollies, Cher, Freddie Mercury and many more.
The show is a mini-theatrical experience, featuring the dynamic vocal and visual performances of James and Monique, alternating as a duo and individual performers, who also do multiple costume changes throughout.
James is the no. 1 Elvis Presley tribute artist in the country, and has appeared on television several times, including appearances on SABC 2’s game shows, “Noot Vir Noot” and “Musiek Roulette”, as well as Kyknet’s “Jou Show”, presented by Emo Adams. James performs a show-stopping Elvis tribute in this show, and also pays tribute to many other legends such as Buddy Holly, Cliff Richard and Roy Orbison.
Monique is a very accomplished vocalist, having performed many different genres of music over the years, including rock ‘n roll, rock, pop, country, blues, ballads and even light classical. She made her television debut on SABC 2’s “Musiek Roulette” in May 2018. Monique has dazzled many an audience with her renditions of timeless songs such as The Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody”, The Platters’ “Only You”, and Freddie Mercury’s version of “The Great Pretender”.
James and Monique are a powerful duo and perform some of the best Beatles and Everly Brothers duets you are likely to hear. They also put their own stamp on some well-known hits not previously performed as a duet.
Join us for a trip down memory lane and an evening of music and fun you won’t forget!
Extremely enjoyable, Monique has an amazing voice.
We missed the show! Somehow we thought the show was at 7.30 and arriving at 7.15 were informed that the show was over! It was a matinee! Very disappointed but I guess that is the problem when you do not have a visible ticket which you can refer back to. Any chance of a refund?
As always a great show. Nice to see new people in the audience.

We had a super afternoon at the Drama Factory on Sunday, listening to the Golden Oldies with James and Monique. The choice of music was perfect, for people to sing along, and dance if they wished. Both musicians were talented, had great voices and the ability to entertain, for the whole show - not easy!! well done to them both and we look forward to seeing them back again before too long.
Absolutely exceptional - had such a fun, happy time. Thanks so much
